We have a couple of Soleri bells in front of the house. Each Novermber, the Cosanti Foundation has a sale in Scottsdale and we used to stock up our gift closet. I think we’ve given every relative and most friends and clients one by now. I love how the morning light hits.
Sculpture in front of the Fort Collins Library.
As we hiked along a trail in the 70 degree weather today, I came across this message of love nailed to a dead tree. The sun was at high noon, washing out most of the color, except for the heart.
I guess I’m still a Minnesotan at heart.
We moved to Fort Collins his summer and have enjoyed walking along the Spring Creek Trail, which runs almost 7 miles through the city. Due to the -15 degree weather and the holidays, we haven’t been on the trail since the trees lost their leaves.
Along the way, we were surprised to find a small alcove dedicated to the water cycle. Pressed into the concrete wall were images designed by Poudre District students depicting not just the water cycle, but also the life cycles of the dragonfly and the willow. The mosaic is part of a fountain that catches water from jets.
I hope I can find the nook in the summer, behind the reeds and cattails.

There is a strong public art program in Fort Collins. You can read about it here, or just wait a few months. I’m sure I’ll get to plenty of them!
#2 son spent 5 weeks in art class mastering Sumi-E painting.
Students began by creating specific brushstrokes and the project ended with a field trip to the local pond for inspiration. I was so surprised to see his portfolio at conferences! Although he literally ripped his art notes in half today (new semster starts Monday), he created several Sumi-E paintings in one day that were framed and given out to family for the holiday. I consider that a successful semester in art for a 7th grade sports-loving boy.

#1 son spent 90 minutes today on the downtown mall attempting to get passers-by to estimate a distance. Close to 50% agreed to stand on a mark and guess how far a sculpture was down the mall.
